Position summary: The Director of Emergency Services is responsible for clinical and administrative program leadership and the coordination and implementation of management systems and fiscal processes within the Emergency Department. Responsible for implementation of the Emergency Department’s strategic and marketing plan.  Assures care is provided based upon professional standards of care and regulatory requirements.

The Director of Emergency Services assumes 24 hour responsibility for the delivery of professional nursing care and the allocation of resources for this service line.  The Director coordinates and integrates services aligned with the strategic plan, mission and vision of Melrose Wakefield Healthcare.  The Director will cultivate and sustain a culture that exemplifies nursing and leadership excellence.  


BS or BSN required.  Masters Degree in Nursing or Business preferred.  Current licensure as established by discipline.  


5 –10 years experience in a management and supervisory.  Strong clinical background.  Experience required including progressive leadership responsibilities.   


Ability to work collaboratively with others, establish positive relationships with community services, referral sources, and clinical and administrative personnel at various payer systems. 

Ability to problem-solve, thinks critically, and understand and assess statistical and financial reports.

Systems and financial analysis, leadership, communication and facilitation skills such as the ability to lead, persuade, negotiate and broker compromise.

Written communication skills for the purpose of business plan development.

Computer literacy with database management, spreadsheet, word processing and presentation software programs.

Problem solving and issue resolution skills.  Presentation skills both oral and written.

Attention to detail and follow up along with the ability to conceptualize.

Ability to prioritize in a changing environment and flexibility to move among multiple projects.
